Harbour House of Charleston is a local charity with the goal of providing a comfortable place for veterans and their families to stay while a loved one is hospitalized or receiving treatment at the VA Medical Center. Kiawah Island residents Durbin and Trux Emerson founded this honorable cause.
A recent fundraising drive was created to provide disabled veterans with All Terrain Track Chairs in the Charleston area. The drive was so successful that there was a glut of chairs available to veterans. That’s when a representative from the track chair company told the charity about Hunter Rewis, a happy 12-year-old, and son and grandson of retired Marines. Hunter suffers from an undiagnosed muscular disease that restricts him to a wheelchair full time.
