Dan Bailey’s 16.2 Score Withheld

Dan Bailey completed only 8 of the 9 required squat cleans at 275 lb. He and his appointed judge both miscounted the score in the fourth round before Dan went on to complete the remaining reps at 19:49. Because of the judging error, Dan’s score has been withheld from the Leaderboard at his request.

Open Workout 16.2 Announced

The second workout of the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games Open has been announced. Open Workout 16.2 is four minutes of 25 toes-to-bar, 50 double-unders, and 15 squat cleans (135 lb. / 85 lb.). If an athlete can complete that work in less than four minutes, four minutes is added to the clock and that athlete works to complete another round with two fewer reps of squat clean at a higher weight. This continues for up to five rounds. Find the complete information, and scaling options on the Workout Description page. Scores are due by 5 p.m. PT Monday, March 7.

Major Penalty for Using Small Diameter Plates on 16.1

From the CrossFit Games Rulebook: “Any movement deemed uncommon, out of the ordinary or used to amend, shorten or change the accepted movement standard or range of motion including line of action of any event movement can and will be disallowed. It is the responsibility of the athlete to notify their judge or CrossFit Inc. of any questionable movement before the workout.”

Some top athletes chose to use smaller, metal plates in order to intentionally shorten the height of the jump on the bar-facing burpees in Open Workout 16.1.

Those who are found cheating in this way will receive a major penalty, and lose 15 percent of their reps on the workout. Athletes who are required to submit video must show that the proper equipment was used or else they will receive the same penalty.
